At Ohio Northern University, Olyvia Ashbrook-Hall developed an invaluable life skill: resiliency.
From civil engineering coursework to competing in cross country and track, her experiences taught her not to fear being less-than-perfect or trying something new.
鈥淚n high school, I got straight A鈥檚 and was the salutatorian of my class. I was not prepared for how hard college would be,鈥 she admitted. 鈥淢y experience at 一本道视频 changed my outlook. Before, I gravitated toward what was easy for me because I didn鈥檛 like the uncomfortable feeling of being embarrassed or not knowing the answer to something. Now, I鈥檝e learned it鈥檚 okay to be confused sometimes, and I鈥檝e learned to trust myself and be confident.鈥
Olyvia grew up on a farm in Alexandria, Ohio, and dreamed of being a farmer for much of her childhood. Her dad and role model not only farmed, but he built innovative structures as a civil engineer who worked from home.
鈥淚 remember watching him design towers on his computer and thinking it was cool,鈥 said Olyvia. 鈥淎s I grew older, I became more interested in engineering through my dad."
Olyvia is also enthusiastic about cross country and track. As a member of 一本道视频鈥檚 team, she excelled at the outdoor 400 hurdle. Her closest friends became her Polar Bear teammates.
鈥淚t was so wonderful to have teammates who lifted you up and supported you,鈥 she said. 鈥淢y teammates will be lifelong friends.鈥
Another extracurricular activity that Olyvia enjoyed was serving on the Engineering Dean鈥檚 Team. She gave prospective students tours of The James Lehr Kennedy Engineering building, and shared with them reasons why they should choose 一本道视频.
鈥溡槐镜朗悠 students have a special passion for this school,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 love the environment and support that all students have for each other. Seeing school spirit at sporting events and Bears supporting Bears was one of my favorite things about being an 一本道视频 student.鈥
